On Saturday, September 27, 2025, the Press, Media, and Information Bureau (BPMI) of the Presidential Secretariat revoked the press ID of CNN Indonesia reporter Diana Valencia.
The revocation occurred after Diana asked President Prabowo Subianto a question regarding the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, Jakarta. The question was considered outside the official presidential agenda, shortly after his return from an overseas trip.
This action has drawn criticism from various press organizations, including the Press Council, the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI), and the Indonesian Television Journalists Association (IJTI). They view the ID revocation as an infringement on press freedom and a violation of Law No. 40 of 1999 concerning the Press.
CNN Indonesia has formally requested clarification from BPMI and the Minister of State Secretariat, but so far, the Presidential Office has not provided an official explanation.
The incident highlights the importance of safeguarding press freedom and ensuring that journalists can perform their duties without undue intimidation or restriction.
